Below Ground Rainwater Harvesting Tanks

What is a rainwater harvesting tank?

A rainwater harvesting tank collects, filters, and stores rainwater. The water within the system is stored reliably until it can be diverted to the required place.

Our rainwater harvesting systems are designed to accommodate farms, homes, gardens, industrial settings, and multi-house dwellings.

What are the features of a below ground rainwater tank?

As their name implies, our excellent range of below ground rainwater harvesting tanks are designed to be installed below ground level. They are usually buried 1.2 metres under the ground and encased in compacted stone or concrete.

Whilst a below ground rainwater tank requires very little human interference, it can be accessed from the ground via an inspection cover for scheduled maintenance and repairs.

In most cases, rainwater harvesting tanks below the ground incorporate an inlet pipe that reaches the bottom of the tank to steady the flow of water while oxygenating it at the same time.

Underground rainwater tanks usually have an overflow unit with a water trap and a non-return valve connected to a storm drain or soakaway to prevent flooding.

A float switch allows users to effectively monitor the water level in the tank, ensuring it remains well topped up. Often, there is an emergency water mains inlet that is triggered when the water drops below a certain level.

A pump is submerged into a below ground rainwater harvesting tank and feeds water into the outlet pipe.

The outlet pipe conveys water to the property – connecting the underground tank to systems such as washing machines, toilets, and taps via a network of pipes.

What are the benefits of a rainwater harvesting tank?

Benefits of rainwater harvesting:

  • Reduces flooding and erosion
  • Reduces water bills
  • Reduces demand on groundwater
  • Can be used for non-drinking purposes

Benefits of our tanks:

  • Suitable for the storage of rainwater
  • Lifting eyes to make unloading and moving the tank easier
  • Stainless steel or plastic lockable lids
  • Variety of taps, valves and float valves available

Another great thing about below ground rainwater harvesting tanks is that, unlike above ground rainwater tanks, they don’t take up any space at ground level. There is little restriction on the design of your garden, as you can easily lay your lawn, paving stones, and garden furniture over the top of the underground tank.

A rainwater harvesting tank below the ground also keeps the water cold and dark, eliminating the growth of algae.

Sprinklers and outdoor taps can be connected to below ground rainwater tanks, reducing the need to use mains water when watering your garden or washing your car. Not only does this help you to save money on your water bills, but it also reduces pressure on the local water supply.
