A safe and cost-effective way to prevent flooding
We supply a wide range of compliant geo-membrane liners specifically designed for the creation of stormwater attenuation lagoons.
Dependent on your needs, we can supply the geo-membrane only or provide you with a complete package. This includes supply, design and construction of the lagoon. Our installation team has over 25 years of experience in rural construction and are ISO:9001 and ISO:14001 compliant.
What is a stormwater attenuation lagoon?
The management of stormwater is becoming increasingly important as a means to control flooding and prevent pollutants from entering our waterways. All new building developments now need to ensure they install compliant stormwater attenuation systems.
Stormwater attenuation lagoons are seen as a best-practice method of controlling the flow of stormwater runoff. Also known as detention basins, retention ponds, retarding ponds, dry ponds or holding ponds, these lagoons are man-made.
They are designed to prevent flooding by controlling the amount of stormwater that is released into the environment at any given time. When a storm event occurs, the lagoons fill up and store large volumes of rainwater temporarily. This water is then gradually released, reducing flooding and erosion downstream.
Why choose our stormwater attenuation lagoons?
High strength & durability
Our geo-membranes are designed to be strong and durable to ensure they last.
Our geo-membranes are designed to have a high resistance to punctures, preventing root growth and other items puncturing the membrane and causing leakages.
Withstands heat/cold weather fluctuations
Our geo-membranes are designed to withstand all fluctuations in weather from extreme heat to the freezing cold.
High impermeability & yield with welded seam strengths
Our geo-membranes provide an impermeable barrier against a wide range of solids and liquids. They also have excellent chemical and UV resistance, impermeability, and high yield and welded strengths.
Our range of geomembranes
We can supply and install geomembrane liners and waterproof lining systems for reservoirs, lakes, ponds, canals and lagoons. We can quickly identify the best lining solution for your specific project. We provide a full 360-degree service that includes detailed design, full installation and inspection.
We can supply the membrane only or provide you with a complete 360-service. This includes the design, supply and complete construction of your lagoon.
From start to finish, we will work with you to advise on the best, most practical, economical and compliant solution. You can also rest assured that you are dealing with professionals – we are ISO 9001, ISO 14001, Achilles and Constructionline accredited.
Construction of a detention lagoon for Aston Villa’s new training ground
O’Brien Contractors, the multi-award-winning civil engineering and groundwork contractor, had been appointed to work on the latest phase of Aston Villa’s new training ground. As part of this work, they needed a solution to prevent excess stormwater from potentially flooding the site.
They contacted us in regards to a stormwater attenuation solution for this project. From undertaking a detailed analysis of their needs, the plans and the site, we agreed upon the installation of a detention basin. It was agreed that we would install as well as supply the detention basin by creating an attenuation lagoon.
How does a detention basin work?
A detention basin (stormwater attenuation lagoon) prevents flooding by controlling the amount of stormwater that is released into the environment at any given time. When a storm event occurs, the detention pond simply fills up and stores large volumes of rainwater temporarily. It will then gradually release this water, thereby reducing flooding and erosion downstream.
What is the difference between a detention and retention basin?
In contrast to dry detention ponds, retention ponds will hold a permanent pool of water and can also be referred to as wet ponds. A retention pond is usually created because of a high groundwater table (the groundwater is near the surface of the earth).
How are stormwater attenuation lagoons created?
These basins are typically created during the construction of new building development projects, such as housing estates or shopping centres. They are a best practice method of preventing general flooding and controlling extreme floods, such as a 1 in a 100-year storm event. The basins help control excess urban runoff, which is created as a result of man-made impervious surfaces such as rooftops, roads etc.
The lagoons are created by excavating an area of land and lining it with a permeable geo-membrane. There will generally be a small opening at the lowest point of the structure. The size of this opening is determined by the capacity of underground and downstream culverts and washes to handle the release of the contained water.
What geo-membranes do we supply?
We can supply and install geo-membrane liners and waterproof lining systems for reservoirs, lakes, ponds, canals and lagoons. By understanding your requirements we can quickly identify the best lining solution for your specific project. We provide a full 360-degree service that includes detailed design, full installation and inspection.
Do we install stormwater lagoons?
We can supply the geo-membrane only or provide you with a complete package. This includes supply, design and also install your lagoon for you. Our installation team has over 25 years of experience in rural construction and are ISO:9001, ISO:14001, Achilles and ConstructionLine accredited.
