160mm Sewer Pipe & Fittings

The 160mm sewer pipes and fittings are available to purchase for a highly competitive price at Cotterill Civils, but what exactly are they? And how do you know if it’s the right diameter size for your underground drainage system?

What are 160mm Sewer Pipes?

Much like any other sewer pipe, the 160mm sewer pipe is manufactured from uPVC so is strong and durable. Yet, despite this, it’s remarkably lightweight which makes it very easy to work with – making installation a breeze.

All products with a 160mm diameter come in a golden brown (terracotta) colour and, thanks to their plastic construction, have smooth interiors which allows them to carry solid waste matter and helps to resist roots from nearby plants and trees.

At Cotterill Civils, we strive to supply only the best quality products for our customers – that’s why every 160mm sewer pipe (and fitting) is manufactured to BS EN 1401.

Why should you choose 160mm Sewer Pipes and fittings?

The most common size of underground drainage pipe for homes in the UK is 110mm.

However, a 160mm drainage pipe is often used for a collection of pipe runs from houses that are joined to one drainage system as it can carry the main flow. But that’s not all. It’s an excellent choice for longer pipe runs too as the fall can be lower than that of its 110mm counterparts.

At Cotterill Civils, we supply the 160mm drainage pipe in 3mtr and 6mtr lengths – and can even provide 33 lengths of socketed pipes for a great price.

All pipes within this collection can be easily connected without adaptors – which makes it a whole lot easier for you.

On top of this, we supply a selection of 15, 30, 45 and 90-degree bends which are compatible with other leading manufacturer’s products. Not to mention couplers for as little as £5.64 (including VAT), reducers, rodding eyes, T junctions and Y junctions.

No matter your requirements, we are confident that you’ll find the 160mm drainage pipe fittings you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

What projects are 160mm sewer pipe fittings most suited?

160mm pipes are typically used for more heavy-duty applications and projects that require pipes to run from properties into one drainage system, as they can carry the main flow of wastewater. They can also carry larger volumes of wastewater to and away from underground drainage systems such as soakaways. You would then use 160mm pipe fittings to fix the piping together. 160mm sewer pipe fittings should only be used with 160mm sewer pipes. For more information regarding 160mm pipe fittings, get in touch with Cotterill Civils via our online enquiry form, and we’ll be in touch as soon as possible.

How wide should I dig my trench to house an underground 160mm sewer pipe and fittings?

The general rule for trench diameters is that it should always be 300mm wider than the plastic sewer pipe you intend to lay. This is because backfill needs to be laid to protect and cushion the pipe and fittings from the surrounding ground. Following the trench diameter specifications, a 160mm sewer pipe and fittings requires a 460mm wide trench. The soil removed for the trench can be used as backfill. But we recommend using pea shingle as it is more protective. At Cotterill Civils, we only stock high quality, durable 160mm pipe fittings that are built to last.

Which plastic sewer pipe fitting do I need?

This depends on your project and whether your pipe run will change direction. If your piping layout isn't a straight run, you’ll need drainage pipe bend fittings to securely change the angle, without risking leaks. Destinations could include an underground drainage system, such as a cesspit. We have a fitting for every angle - our selection includes 15°, 30°, 45° and 90° bends. However, you may only need to join two plastic pipes together. If so, you’ll only need a pipe coupler. Another type of 160mm pipe fitting we supply is Y and T junctions. Junctions are used when joining two pipe runs together. For more information on sewer pipe fittings, you can get in touch with one of our experts by calling us on 01213513230

Do I need pipe lubricant when installing 160mm sewer pipe fittings?

It’s essential to use pipe lubricant when fixing two plastic pipes together. This substance prevents 160mm fittings from displacing and reduces the force required to install the joints together. The 500ml Flexseal pipe lubricant we stock is suitable for clay, concrete, and plastic pipes. We recommend purchasing lubricant alongside your 160mm pipe fittings so you can get to work assembling your pipe run as soon as possible. Do you need to speak with a professional?
