Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a water-tight concrete ring?

This depends on how you plan to install your manhole. If you plan to install the ring without a concrete surround, you’ll need a water-tight ring to prevent leaks or floods. Water-tight concrete manhole rings are much more robust and don't need a concrete surround, unlike standard concrete rings. A normal concrete ring is effective if you already have a concrete surround for your manhole.

Why do I need a concrete cover slab?

Concrete cover slabs are heavy duty slabs that sit on top of the chamber ring and complete the main shaft of a manhole. They’re installed to create a point of access to the manhole chamber and provide a base for any brickwork before being capped with a manhole cover. They’re sometimes referred to as ‘reducing slabs’ because they reduce the size of the opening into the main chamber.

Do I need a manhole ring with step irons?

A manhole ring with step irons allows safe entry into a manhole and is particularly useful for any deep constructions where it’s not possible to safely lower a worker into the space. It can get fairly dark down manhole chambers, so our fitted step irons come in bright colours to increase high visibility.

Do concrete manhole rings last for a long time?

Concrete is one of the most durable construction materials available. Our concrete manhole rings firmly withstand attacks from corrosive elements and groundwater that can cause erosion. Sealing your concrete manhole rings with sand mortar, cement, or bitumen sealant will prolong their lifespan even further.
