Raising money for Rainbows - Cotterill Civils 100km Bikeathlon 2023

At Cotterills, we love any excuse to do something fun for the sake of a good cause. Last week we completed a 100 km bikeathlon in aid of Rainbows Children's Hospice, and what an event it was!

We set ourselves the target of cycling 100 kilometres over two days - and taught ourselves a valuable lesson about reaching for the stars! At the end of the two days cycling, we’d blasted our target and reached an extraordinary distance of 280 km!

More importantly, we smashed our fundraising goal of £500, and ended up raising a whopping £1010! This money will help go towards improving children and young people's lives in the are of those at Rainbows Children's Hospice. Our sponsors money will help fund end of life care, provide support to bereaved families, and offer respite services.

The Event

It was an intensely hot and humid two days, making the thirty minute sessions seem more like two hours! We had plenty of water on hand, as well as a lot of 80’s music and moral support from the team keeping us all going. This challenge was far from easy, however, when we remembered the cause that the event was for, pedalling suddenly became much easier.

It wasn’t without a healthy bit of competition though! Our very own Andy Cotterill stormed ahead as the fastest cyclist, with his son Tim coming a close second, and daughter Imi on their heels.

The money raised will allow Rainbows to continue their fantastic work with children, young people and families through incredibly difficult times.

A little bit about Rainbows

Rainbows Children’s Hospice are based in Loughborough and specialise in end-of-life care for children and young people, as well as many other important services. These include bereavement support, symptom management and respite to name a few. Rainbows rely on the generosity of public donations to allow them to carry out their work, and your donations make all the difference.

This charity is close to our hearts at Cotterills, as our very own service engineer’s partner Emily is one of the heroes who works for Rainbows and provides these services for young people across the Midlands.
