What is a Bypass Separator?

A Bypass Separator is a tank that is designed to treat the first 10% of surface water runoff. They are typically used in areas such as a car park or roadway.

When water runoff enters the tank, solids are designed to sink to the bottom and are retained in the chamber. Oil and water are then passed through to the second chamber where they are partially separated. As rainwater builds and the surface water entering the separator exceeds the design flow, further runoff is diverted to bypass the second chamber and exit the separator.

What is a Full Retention Separator?

Full Retention Separators are suitable for use in car parks, roadways, fuel distribution depots, vehicle workshops and forecourts. They are used where there is a risk of regular contamination with oil and foreseeable risk of significant spillages.

They work by treating the full flow that can be delivered by the drainage system. This is normally equivalent to the flow generated by a rainfall intensity of 65mm/hr.

What is a Grease Separator?

Grease Separators, also known as Grease Traps, are designed to intercept most greases and solids before they enter a wastewater disposal system. Wastewater can contain small amounts of oils and if they enter into septic tanks and treatment facilities they can form a floating scum. Large amounts of oil used in food preparation at restaurants or hotels can cause issues with a septic tank or treatment facility. This can result in the release of untreated sewage into the environment.
