It all started for us back in the early nineties when Cotterill Civils was founded by our MD, Andrew Cotterill. Originally set up as an agricultural contracting business, serving farmers in a 50 mile radius of our base in Sutton Coldfield, it became apparent to Andrew that a good specialist material supplier for land drainage was hard to come by.
Recognising this as an opportunity, Cotterill Civils Ltd was incorporated in 2004 and the company’s focus shifted towards the supply of land drainage - later expanding to various drainage and civils solutions.
29 years on and we’re now a leading drainage and civils specialist, with a fleet of vehicles at our disposal and large stocks of our products stored in our vast yard here at Hermitage Farm.
Farming has been in our MD’s family for centuries. Andrew’s great grandparents relocated to Hermitage Farm in 1919 after selling their previous farm in Wishaw and his father, Brian Cotterill, went on to later take over the management of the farm in 1969.
A lot has changed over the years. Back in 1919, Hermitage Farm functioned as a mixed farm where the Cotterill family bred sheep, cows and poultry whilst using the land to grow wheat, barley and vegetables such as mangolds and swedes. Today, the farm remains a working mixed farm but it has also diversified, renting out its buildings to various companies as well as being our HQ and a base for Andrew’s other businesses.

Unlike other merchants, we can also offer an installation service on a number of our products, where we can design, supply and install your chosen solution. These include sewage treatment systems, soakaway crates, galvanised steel tanks, rainwater harvesting systems and stormwater lagoons.
