Why use a horizontal water tank?

Horizontal tanks have varied uses, such as acting as water bowsers. They are available in a wide range of sizes from 150 litres to 5000 litres – giving you the flexibility to find the right tank at the right price.

Horizontal leg tanks are versatile. They can be used across a variety of sectors; agricultural, construction, commercial, domestic, horticultural, industrial and irrigation. Their versatility gives you the benefit of using them no matter the industry you work in.

Thanks to the design of horizontal water storage tanks, they are also easy in terms of mobility. Their simple transportation makes them appealing to companies that are in need of regularly transporting liquids.

About our horizontal water storage tanks

All the horizontal water tanks we provide are manufactured by Enduramaxx and come with a 10-year warranty.

Made for low profile water storage, they are available in a variety of colours helping them to blend in with their surroundings.

Horizontal tanks are rotationally moulded, as one piece, from UV stabilised medium density polyethylene (MDPE). Polyethylene tanks are lighter than steel or fibreglass tanks, allowing you to choose a larger capacity tank without the weight.

These tanks are ribbed for added strength and have a particularly high endurance – making them less prone to leakages. They also will not rust or corrode and are impact resistant.

Our plastic storage tanks are available with a variety of fittings, attachments and mounts. Please contact our advisers on 0121 351 3230 if you would like to discuss these options in more detail.

Which water storage tank is best?

Water tanks are often used for potable water, irrigation, agriculture, fire suppression and farming and come in almost any shape and size – not to mention a variety of materials to suit different applications.

The question is, which is right for you?

First and foremost, you need to think about what you’ll be storing inside the tank (e.g. rainwater, drinking water, acids and chemicals, etc.) and where the tank will be located so you can determine its size and shape.

Once you’ve figured out which size and shape you need, you’ll then need to choose a tank material. Here at Cotterill Civils, we supply galvanised steel water tanks and HDPE (high-density polyethylene) plastic tanks.

Our plastic tanks are relatively immune to damage from salty water and, because they have the ability to spring back into shape, they can take light impacts. However, it’s worth noting that heavy impacts or impacts from sharp objects could crack or puncture the plastic.

Though they typically cost more, the galvanised steel tanks are a more durable alternative and have a long lifespan.

How often do water tanks need to be cleaned?

The simple answer is it depends on what your water tank is used for.

Ideally, water tanks that store drinking water should be drained and cleaned at least once a year. And it’s recommended that they are inspected for bacteria every six months.

Rainwater tanks, on the other hand, should be cleaned and disinfected every 1-2 years. Though the guidelines for these water tanks are less strict than potable tanks, bacteriological sampling is required every six months to prevent the growth of bacteria, such as E-coli.

With that said, to ensure that your tank remains clean and fresh, we’d always recommend that it undergoes a rigorous clean twice a year, if possible.

How much do water tanks cost?

Several factors determine the cost of water tanks, including the size of the tank and the material it is made from.

As you’d expect, the smaller the tank is, the cheaper it will cost. However, plastic tanks are lighter than galvanised steel tanks and are more affordable to manufacture.

At Cotterill Civils, we provide both galvanised steel and plastic water tanks in all sizes – starting from 5,000 litres and ranging right the way up to 30,000 litres. We pride ourselves on offering some of the most competitive prices around and are confident that you’ll be hard-pushed to find better quality water tanks for less anywhere else.
