An inspection chamber is an essential component of any underground drainage system. It provides access for maintenance, testing, and clearing blockages, ensuring your system continues to function efficiently.
Choosing the right inspection chamber can feel daunting, but it doesn’t need to be. At Cotterill Civils, we’re always on hand to provide expert guidance and help you find the perfect solution.

What are Inspection Chambers For?
The main purpose of an inspection chamber is to provide an access point for your underground drainage system, allowing you to clear or repair any blockages safely and efficiently.
These plastic or concrete manholes also enhance safety by preventing unauthorised access to the drainage network.
With so many options available, selecting the right inspection chamber depends on several key factors — including shape, size, and system compatibility.
Shape and Size
Whether you need round or square chambers, we can help. Our range includes both internal and external manholes in a variety of depths. From shallow installations to deep systems, Cotterill Civils supplies inspection chambers suitable for every application.
Adoptable or Non-Adoptable Chambers
Both adoptable and non-adoptable inspection chambers are built for exceptional performance and comply with UK drainage regulations. Adoptable chambers are designed for shared drainage systems serving two or more properties and can connect to the main sewer network. Non-adoptable chambers serve a single property, making them the homeowner’s responsibility.
Twinwall Systems
Cotterill Civils supplies inspection chambers for Twinwall pipe systems made from high-strength polyethylene. Available as both Straight Channel and Deep Catchpit variants, these are easy to connect and come in multiple depths and diameters to meet specific project requirements.
EN1401 Pipe Systems
If you’re installing an EN1401 sewer pipe system, we offer non-man-entry inspection chambers designed for easy connection to EN1401 UPVC pipes.
These robust, long-lasting chambers are ideal for adaptable applications with 3 m inverts and non-adaptable systems with 6 m inverts.
Catchpits
A catchpit is an empty chamber located within the underground drainage system. Like our other inspection chambers, our catchpits are designed to trap and collect silt or debris, preventing blockages and ensuring a smooth water flow.
