Above Ground Rainwater Harvesting Tanks

What is a rainwater harvesting tank?

A rainwater harvester is a system that collects and stores rainwater from rooftops, paved surfaces, or other areas, for later use. The collected rainwater can be used for various purposes, such as irrigation, flushing toilets and washing clothes or vehicles.

The rainwater harvesting system typically consists of a collection surface, such as a roof or a paved area, a gutter or channel to direct the water into a storage tank, and a filtration system to remove debris and contaminants from the collected water.

Rainwater harvesting is an eco-friendly and sustainable way to conserve water resources, reduce the strain on municipal water supplies, and provide a backup source of water during times of drought or water restrictions.

What can above ground rainwater harvesting systems be used for?

With the cost of mains water supplies rising, using an above ground rainwater harvesting tank is guaranteed to save you money on your water bills.

The water stored inside above ground rainwater systems is clean and naturally occurring, which makes it suitable for most domestic tasks.

Above ground rainwater collection tanks may take up space in your garden, but they allow you to store water and access it whenever you need it most.

For example, instead of using hundreds of litres of potable water every year to water your garden – either via a hosepipe, watering can, or sprinkler – you could use the water stored in your above ground rainwater tank.

Similarly, next time you need to wash your car, think again before you grab your bucket and fill it with perfectly drinkable water from your tap.

Ponds and other garden features are often best topped up with rainwater, too, as it’s softer than mains water and free from chlorine residue.

Using the harvested rainwater from your above ground rainwater harvesting system is also much better for your washing machine if you live in an area with hard water.

Storing rainwater is also beneficial for agricultural use. Large roof areas on agricultural buildings make them ideal for collecting rainwater. The main use on arable farms is for spraying, while on livestock farms its drinking water for animals (with the application of special filters), as well as washing down machinery and yards etc.
