What is a water storage lagoon?
A water storage lagoon is also known as a water storage pond or farm pond. Farm ponds can capture, store, and distribute water for a variety of agricultural purposes. These include the irrigation of crops, supporting aquaculture and providing water to livestock. They provide a cost-effective means for supporting a farm as they are naturally replenished from the rain.
What are ponds used for?
Farm ponds have a variety of uses. These include:
- Irrigation of crops
Keep crops irrigated during periods of dry weather.
- Water to feed animals
The ponds can also be used to supply water to your livestock.
Aquaculture such as fish, shellfish, aquatic plants, or algae can grow in the pond itself.
Farm ponds also protect against the elements in the form of frost, fire, or erosion control.
- Recreation purposes
Ponds can be used for recreation purposes such as fishing or to provide an aesthetic appeal to your surroundings.
